It’s Only a Season

I never liked fall or winter. The cloudy days, cold rain, and bare branches always left me in a depressing haze… but recently I had a change of heart. Leave it to me to take something simple and complicate it with deep quotes and over-thinking, but sometimes my over-thinking leads to a positive change.

During my walk a few days ago, I was gazing at bare branches and the most obvious thing dawned on me: It’s only a season… The trees shed their leaves so new ones will grow. Someone will be like… um, DUH… but it was a revelation to me. I always knew this, but never completely understood. This season is not a sad end, but a moment of transition. Then another light turned on.. This applied to my life as well. Moments of loss or emptiness were only a stepping stones to something new… possibly even better than what was before. Sometimes living in the moment is a painful thing to do, but it’s not so bad when you see things for what they are.

The past: Gone

The present: A moment of transition

The future: Unwritten

Happy 2012.

  1. Insightful, and True… I’ve always actually liked the Fall and Winter… But often there are Winter People, and there are Summer people.

You’re right though, the present is transitional… And the future is unwritten.

The Past is often best used to reflect upon, for the sake of learning, or for the sake of memories… But it’s definitely best not to cling to it… All things change

In regards to love, from a very young age I always wanted to find “The One”… Now that I’m older, and have been in love 4 different times… I’ve realized, there’s no way of knowing what you path will be… Whether Love will last, or briefly pass through your life.

I can tell you, I don’t regret any of my relationships… Not in the slightest… I loved them all… And I am hopeful about someday loving again…

Writing Poems is the best for the harder moments… Moments of missing someone… Or missing the feelings that come with love

Like I said before, hang in there… This is a beautiful, thoughtful, insightful and significant piece of Writing

    Thanks for it

    DarkJade-

    • Summer will always be my favorite… but im learning to enjoy every season. I’ve never wanted to find the one. It always seemed too fairy tale status. Relationships may come in time.. life has a way of throwing you for a loop.. but im pretty happy just being me, riding solo! Thank you for reading and for your thoughtful comments 🙂

      • It’s true, I’ve always been a Romantic… And though I know the difference between Fairy Tales and Real Life, I definitely lean towards Romanticism when it comes to love… In love with being in love… Oh well, lol

    • I’m not sad just reflecting. I’m a summer person but I agree, this season is beautiful. I took a snow trip for the first time last year…. amazing experience! Thanks for reading 🙂

  2. Hi im konica and i love the winters… I don’t like the pressure of spring and summer. The pressure of being out, “enjoying the weather”, walking, running, gardening…the list goes on. With winter, you have a ready-made (and valid) excuse to just relax. Dark before even leaving the house, you can settle in at home, doing very little without the guilt and pressure of “doing”.

  3. What a perfect post for the beginning of the new year. Nicely done. That said, my season of horrors is summer. I live in a place of extreme heat, and I’m heat intolerant.

I used to try to connive myself into thinking that this summer would somehow be different than the previous one. What I do now, is lean into my summer self, and let what will be, be.

Of course, you’ve said the same thing more succinctly and sweetly, so I appreciate the beauty of your sentiment.

    • It’s my pleasure! I was so struck by this post that I’m trying to carry it with me as I begin my pre-summer preparations in the next couple of months. (And I know we have reverse reactions, but I think that is one of the reasons I was able to listen, and hear, the simple exquisiteness of your writing and thoughts on living with a difficult season.)

      • Wow! That is quite the compliment… I feel honored that my writing made a lasting expression… Thank you so much! I hope your summer is simply wonderful!

  4. We are always in transition- always learning and evolving. To damper that would be to stifle your full potential! If we never learn anything new, we would either stay put or travel in complete circles. Never really making it anywhere. Gorgeous photo, by the way 🙂

    • So true… thats the beauty of life.. we have the potential to learn, see, do, and be anything we wish. Thinking of that makes me happy, thank you 🙂

  5. This is a really lovely way of thinking. I’m glad your “over thinking” things lead you to this string of thoughts. I like the idea of the present being a moment of transition, and I love the photo. I too have a few like that. They’re lovely.

    • Yes.. every now and then my overthinking leads to something good. I believe it is both a blessing and a curse. I love this pic too, it seemed fitting! Thank you! 🙂

  6. Living in the moment, is realizing your alive, in its truest form. The moment you became aware of the transformation of the tree, is the moment you began to realize that you will never again feel the way that you are feeling then and there. Wonderful topic. Look forward to reading more.

    • Love those moments of realization… they bring something new to the mundane of life. Always learning, we never truly have it all figured out. I look forward to sharing more. Thank you so much

  7. Love the last 3 lines especially. The future is what you make it.

That’s one reason why I like gloomy days haha. Not that I am a gloomy person as you have seen already 😀 I actually have the time to think about things such as the future, where I am in this very moment, what kind of person I am. Just things like that.

    Great post!
